Outrage Surges as Trump's Post on Director Rob Reiner Ignites Widespread Rebuke

Personalities from both sides of the political aisle and the entertainment world are coming together to denounce former President Donald Trump for his statements following the shocking passing of esteemed director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

A Controversial Online Statement

Following the discovery of the couple deceased at their Brentwood residence, Trump took to social media to describe the deceased director as "anguished and suffering". The post, he asserted Reiner's demise was "because of the hostility he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

His comments then pivoted to praising his own achievements, juxtaposing Reiner's alleged "raging obsession" and "clear paranoia" with what Trump called the "unprecedented era of America".

Police Update and Arrest

Authorities have since announced the arrest of the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick, on suspicion of homicide in relation to the incident. It is reported his bond was set at a substantial amount.

A Torrent of Criticism from Celebrities and Politicians

The response to Trump's words was immediate and scathing.

“What a vile and vile statement,” said actor Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Media personality Whoopi Goldberg, who called Reiner a friend, also criticized the remarks. She pointed to previous rhetoric from Trump regarding political violence, demanding, "Have you no decency? Can you get any worse?"

California's Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, simply stated, "This is a sick man."

Mirroring this sentiment, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost declared, "What a despicable piece of garbage."

Senator Chris Murphy added, "He's just lost it. Now implying the Reiners caused their own demise because they didn’t support him. So sick."

Rebuke from His Own Political Ranks

Some GOP elected officials also voiced disapproval.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene stated that the situation was "a family tragedy, not about political feuds or political enemies". She also alluded to struggles with substance abuse and mental health some families face.

Another GOP representative, Thomas Massie, called Trump's remarks "inappropriate and disrespectful" considering the circumstances. He openly dared others in his party to justify the statements.

Reiner's History and Views on Trump

Rob Reiner was long a outspoken detractor of Donald Trump. During a previous conversation, he argued Trump was "mentally unfit" for the office. He had also cautioned about the dangers of autocracy should Trump return to power.

"We see autocracy making its move around the world," Reiner noted. "Should the United States fall, there’s a risk that democracy collapse around the world."

Despite his pointed opposition, Reiner had in the past shown "absolute horror" and denounced political violence unequivocally after the shooting of a different individual.

A Notable Connection: The Art of the Deal

Adding a layer of historical connection, Michele Reiner, formerly Michele Singer, was the artist who captured the cover image for Donald Trump's iconic book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had once shared the anecdote of the session, noting Trump's demand for "special hairspray" while being photographed on a skyscraper with a view of Central Park.
