Nearly a week following Hurricane Melissa pummelled into the island's west coast with historic intensity, locals in affected areas along the coast are continuing to hope for relief.

Numerous thoroughfares are obstructed by wreckage and residents remain cut off with scarce supplies, no power or running water, and unknown restoration dates.

Rising Death Toll

Officials reported on Saturday that no fewer than 28 individuals in Jamaica have died since the hurricane hit as a monster category five storm with nearly 300 km/h wind speeds.
