Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after his victory in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, lying 36 points behind Norris, finished in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he lost control at the fourth corner during the early running.
The Japanese slid over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was lucky to avoid just a minor contact of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho corner before the last turn on to the pit straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
