Supporters Call for Custody of Person Who Touched Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of Ariana Grande are urging that a individual who breached a fence and seized the celebrity during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared footage reveals the Australian man bypassing media personnel and lunging at Grande while the actors walked down a promenade accompanied by supporters.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo immediately wrested the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being led away of the event by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram recently that he was "let go after being arrested", though legal records indicated that he was set to attend court on the next day. It is unknown if he was charged.
History of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram account features clips of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the city last year.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is obviously a punishable act," stated an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user wrote.
Followers Show Disapproval Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Many supporters criticized Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the end of her 2017 performance in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said another message on Instagram.
Several attendees also faulted event staff at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while different individuals called for social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's content.
Aftermath and Event Details
In footage circulating online, Grande appeared startled when she was approached by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the situation, and the premiere activities continued without further issues.
Many of fans had congregated in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore shopping center, including several who had queued for as long as many hours before it commenced.
The movie, to be released on 21 November, is the follow-up of a two-part adaptation of the well-known Broadway and West End show Wicked, which focuses on the surprising relationship between two very different sorceresses.
The show itself is a adaptation of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the good witch Glinda, was adorned in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the villainous character, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning film of 2024 in the UK, and earned a dozen Academy Award nods, winning a pair for best costume and production design.
