The former Liverpool manager admits a return to manage Liverpool is conceivable.

The German coach, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback is an option. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing near-decade reign featuring a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait for three decades, currently occupies positions as head of global soccer within the Red Bull organization and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.

Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments

The club claimed England's top flight in the previous campaign, but many fans who revere Klopp would welcome the idea that he may eventually return. In a wide-ranging interview, he explained to his interviewer: “I declared I refuse to lead another team on English soil. Therefore should it be the Reds...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”

“Being 58, that means I could make the decision in a few years, who knows. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I can just see what the future brings.”

Conditions for a Comeback

Questioned regarding what circumstances would have to unfold to tempt his return to management, he confessed he isn't eager for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, I love what I do right now,” he stated. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing in the rain through long matches; I'm glad to skip interviews four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.

“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, but sitting in a restaurant with the players enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games so there was often a very good mood in the building. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled as an instance.”

Commending Arne Slot

He spoke highly of the current boss, praising him for the tweaks that won the league last term. The team has suffered a string of losses in all competitions following significant transfers, though he denied the suggestion that it might signal a slump.

“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, critics will regret if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. Ekitike, incredible player. This is a well-built well-judged squad. Fans shouldn't fret regarding the Reds, things will improve.”

Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward

The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of Diogo Jota, a 2020 acquisition in 2020, along with the consequences on Liverpool. The forward died tragically in a vehicle collision together with his sibling recently.

“Can you substitute a person like him? It’s not about his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. I can’t imagine the team environment absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss on this topic. A profound tragedy for the entire squad also. No one within the club will ever use it for poor performances yet it's the reality. Being in that space which he filled completely. Coping with it individually is challenging. Unbearable.”
